Formed Day 20: Keep the Water Out of the Boat

Scripture:

“I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.”John 17:14–15 (NLT)

Devotional

Consider the relationship between a boat and the ocean. A boat is specifically designed to be in the water, and it needs the water to fulfill its purpose of traveling to a destination. However, while the boat is meant to sit in the water, water is never meant to get inside the boat. The moment water leaks inside, the boat begins to sink and fails its purpose.

As followers of Jesus, our lives function like that boat. We are called to be in the world to fulfill our Kingdom assignment, but we cannot allow the world's mindsets, values, and desires to leak into our hearts.

Living "in, but not of" the world requires daily trust in the Master Potter. Step out in faith, embrace the work He has given you, and trust Him to keep your heart steady in the middle of life's waters.

Reflection

Is there any "water" from the world leaking into the boat of your heart that needs to be bailed out today?

Prayer Prompt

Jesus, give me the wisdom and grace to live in this world without letting worldly desires sink my heart. Keep my heart guarded and pure. I trust You to hold me steady as I fulfill Your purpose in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
