Formed Day 3: Break and Soak
Scripture:
“As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.”
— Jeremiah 18:6b (NLT)
Devotional
How does clay that has dried out or lost its shape ever get back to a state where it can be formed? The answer is simple: break and soak.
To reset clay that has become stiff, rigid, or misshaped, it must first be broken down into smaller pieces and completely submerged in water. The addition of water softens the hard edges and restores the clay to its "plastic" state—where it becomes pliable, workable, and ready for the wheel once again.
Spiritually, we often resist the soaking process because we prefer to stay rigid and independent. But without the water, dry clay only breaks further under pressure. Soaking in God’s presence, His Word, and His Spirit is what restores our pliability. When we allow Him to break our self-reliance and soak us in His grace, our hearts become moldable in His hands once more.
Reflection
What "dry" or rigid habits in your life need to be soaked in prayer and God's presence today?
Prayer Prompt
Lord, I confess that I have allowed parts of my life to become stiff and unyielding. Break down my self-reliance and soften my heart. Soak me in Your presence and word today so that I can become soft, pliable, and ready for Your hand to shape me again. Amen.
