Formed Day 5: Beyond the Surface

Scripture:

“O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay?”

Devotional

Consider this story: A potter brought home a hand-made vessel, and immediately his spouse complimented it, saying, "I really like this shape!" But as the potter looked at it, he began running through a mental list of things he was not crazy about:

• It was a bit off-center.

• The bottom was a little too thick.

• The pot felt heavy.

• It had been allowed to dry too long before finishing.

To an outside observer, the pot looked fine. But the potter knew all the subtle flaws that weren't obvious to anyone else.

It’s easy to live a life that looks good to everyone around us. People might compliment our success, our appearance, or our rhythm, but the Master Potter knows the truth. He knows when our base is too heavy, when our focus is off-center, or when we’ve let ourselves dry out too long. God isn't satisfied with surface-level approval; He desires deep, genuine integrity and purpose. Let Him correct the unseen flaws so you can become all He designed you to be.

Are you settling for things looking "fine" on the outside, or are you letting God address the deeper, unseen flaws in your heart?

Prayer Prompt

Master Potter, search my heart today. You know the places where I am heavy, off-center, or drying out, even when everyone else thinks I'm doing fine. I give You permission to work on the hidden flaws. Shape me from the inside out so I can fully reflect Your design. Amen.
