Formed Day 14: The Direction of the Word
Scripture:
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NLT)
Devotional
While prayer creates the pressure that brings our hearts back to center, pressure without direction is chaotic. That is why prayer and the Word must work together. The Word of God provides the direction, showing us how to live once we are centered.
God's Word is alive and actively at work in our lives:
It Teaches: Showing us what is true and shaping our understanding of God and ourselves.
Formed: pressure & direction Jon
It Corrects: Exposing sin, confronting defensive attitudes, and revealing disobedience.
Formed: pressure & direction Jon
It Prepares: Getting our hearts ready to live faithfully.
Formed: pressure & direction Jon
It Equips: Giving us practical truth to live out His commands in action.
Formed: pressure & direction Jon
To let the Word direct us, we have to slow down. Instead of reading quickly just for information, try writing out Scripture word-for-word. It’s the spiritual equivalent of chewing your food rather than swallowing it whole, positioning your heart for true transformation.
Reflection
Which function of Scripture—teaching, correcting, preparing, or equipping—do you need to yield to most today?
Prayer Prompt
Holy Spirit, give me a genuine hunger for Your Word. Help me slow down when I read so Your truth can transform me. Correct my wrong attitudes, teach me what is true, and direct my steps today. Amen.
